That career lasted more than 25 years, including Doctoral work and a research position at UC Santa Cruz from 1972 through 1987. He loved to do field research in waters off Baja California, Mexico, all along the US Pacific coast, and in the Gulf of Alaska and eastern Bering Sea. Delivering lectures about his research took him to professional conferences in cities all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Scotland and England.
Dr. Briggs joined the UC Davis Veterinary Class that entered in 1987, and graduated four years later. He worked as an Associate in several practices, and started a practice in Vacaville that thrives today, some 25 years later.
His early research on marine mammal anatomy, dentition and evolution predisposed him to enjoy all aspects of Veterinary Surgery, and eventually focused on dentistry and orthopedics. Continual learning at professional conferences helps to sharpen his work in these areas, as did a multi-year residency in Dentistry and orofacial surgery through the American Veterinary Dental College. It is also a main focus of his practice to help Pet Owners prevent the many ailments resulting from disease transmission from other pets and parasites. Each doctor at Companion Animal Hospital shares this deep commitment.
When taking time away from work, Dr. Briggs is an avid hiker and bird-watcher, enjoying Coastal trails, Central Valley rivers and marshes, and the heights of the Sierra Nevada.
After 26 years of practice in the Bay Area, Sacramento Valley and North Coast, Dr. Briggs is thrilled to return to his friends and family still living in the Monterey Bay Area. He looks forward to meeting you and your furry friends and helping them to enjoy long and happy lives.
